New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez and his wife Cynthia have settled their bitter divorce, according to their lawyers. Cynthia filed for divorce back in July, citing infidelity as one of the major issues. Rumors at the time suggested that A-Rod was having an affair with pop icon Madonna.
No details of the settlement have been released. The statement released by Rodriguez’s attorney Alan Kluger (one member of his large legal team) indicates that no further information will be made public. At the time of the initial filings, A-Rod asked the court to enforce a prenuptial agreement the couple signed a month before their 2002 wedding. Cynthia did not explicitly ask the court to invalidate the agreement but asked whether or not it is enforceable. It is likely that the couple’s settlement represents a compromise resulting in an outcome somewhere between the prenup and the property and support that Cynthia originally sought.
The lawyers have indicated that the settlement is the result of private negotiations. It is not clear whether the couple used the services of a mediator in reaching their agreement.
