Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler Marry 0

About: Entertainers

Simon & JonathanSimon Doonan, creative director at Barney’s New York, and interior designer Jonathan Adler were married earlier this month in San Francisco.  Doonan and Adler were a couple for 14 years before tying the knot.

In addition to his duties at Barney’s, Doonan is also an author, newspaper columnist and television personality.  He regularly appears as a commentator on VH1’s “I Love the…” series and has made two appearances on Tyra Banks’ “America’s Next Top Model”, coaching contestants on personal style.  (He even made one girl cry, if I recall correctly…)

Adler is the head judge on Bravo’s “Top Design“, has his own home decor line and stores and decorates high profile residences, hotels and retail outlets.

Although Doonan and Adler have several homes, it is believed that their main residence is in New York City.  California began allowing same-sex marriages in June 2008 and several gay celebrity couples have married in the state since then.  New York does not allow same-sex marriages to be legally performed in that state.  However, in May 2008, the governor of New York, David Patterson, ordered all state agencies to recognize any gay marriage which was legal in the state in which it was performed.

Accordingly, it seems that Doonan and Adler’s new marital status will be acknowledged by their home state for all legal purposes – state taxes, probate, family court and any other state function on which marital status has any effect.  The federal government still does not recognize same-sex marriage.
