Father of Padma Lakshmi’s Baby Identified 0

Padma LakshmiFormer model and Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi gave birth to a daughter last month. She announced her pregnancy back October but declined to publicly identify the child’s father. Lakshmi and the baby, named Krishna, live in New York City.

The New York Post now reports that Krishna’s father is Adam Dell, a venture capitalist who splits his time between Austin and New York City. Dell is the brother of Dell Computers founder Michael Dell and is a business/law/technology professor at both the University of Texas School of Law and Columbia University’s Business School. UT’s website shows that Dell is instructing a business, law and innovation course this spring – we’re guessing that his students might be a bit distracted next week after hearing this news.

Lakshmi and Dell apparently dated for some time in 2009 but are not currently a couple. They are reportedly trying to work out custody and visitation matters now. According to some sources, Dell would like “more time and involvement with the child.” Other sources though have indicated that there is already an agreement in place.

In any event, because Lakshmi and Dell were not married at the time of Krishna’s birth, they will have to file a paternity case in New York. One will likely file and the other will consent to a judgment of paternity. After paternity is established, the court will have authority to issue a custody order, approve or order a parenting schedule and calculate child support.

Lakshmi was married to author Salman Rushdie from 2004 to 2007.
