New Jersey Governor Divorce Final 0

jim mcgreeveyA New Jersey court finally handed down a decision in the ongoing divorce saga of ex-New Jersey Governor James McGreevey and his wife Dina Matos. As we have previously reported, the gay ex-politician and his fundraiser ex battled in court for over a year, arguing about everything from custody to alimony to fraud.

Matos requested $2,500 per month in alimony and $1,750 per month in child support. The couple agreed to joint custody of their six-year-old daughter during the divorce trial last month. The judge denied any award of alimony and awarded Matos the sum of $1,075 per month in child support.

McGreevey, now an Episcopal seminarian, was found by the court to be “underemployed.” This means that the judge believes that he is capable of making more than he does, taking into account his education, experience, market conditions and all relevant circumstances.

The former first couple was ordered to divide their joint investments and any retirement benefits accrued during their four year marriage equally. Each is to pay his or her own attorneys fees which are apparently almost half a million dollars for each after the protracted court fight.
