R. Kelly Divorce Finalized

R&B singer R. Kelly’s divorce from wife Andrea Kelly was finalized this week after a three year separation. The couple split in the fall of 2005 amidst Andrea’s allegations of domestic abuse against her husband. They have now apparently settled their dissolution case and will share joint custody of their three children.

The year before the separation, charges against R. Kelly were dropped for having sex with an underage girl in Florida. In 2008, the singer was finally acquitted of charges of child pornography which had been pending since 2002 in Chicago (another sexual tryst with an underage girl).

Two years before he married Andrea, R. Kelly reportedly married his protege Aaliyah, who was 15 years old at the time. Documents circulated showing that Aaliyah lied about her age in order to obtain a marriage license. The marriage was apparently annulled – probably on the grounds that Aaliyah was not old enough to provide valid legal consent.
