Debbie Matenopoulos' Husband Accuses Her of Freeloading

Jay Faires, estranged husband of E! host Debbie Matenopoulos, filed some explosive pleadings in an L.A. court this week. Faires accuses Matenopoulos of living in the couple’s multi-million dollar marital home since their separation but paying none of the bills associated with the house.

Faires’ filings indicate that he makes $450,000 a year and that Matenopoulos makes at least $225,000 a year. Despite the couple’s wealth, Faires claims that they consistently lived beyond their means during their five year marriage. Faires has moved out of the house but says that Matenopoulos still expects him to pay the everything from the mortgage, taxes, utilities, insurance and pool expenses to the cable bill and Matenopoulos’ cell phone bill.

Faires would apparently like to sell the marital home which he contends is worth $4.3 million. He says that Matenopoulos won’t agree to sell for anything under $8 million. He is asking the court to order her to pay the household expenses if she refuses to sell the property for a reasonable, market price or to at least pay him spousal support to assist him in paying the mortgage.

Matenopoulos responded, asserting that she has always paid her own expenses for the duration of the marriage. The case is set for hearing on February 23rd. It should be interesting to see who is telling the truth here.  It doesn’t seem like there is much gray area – either she’s paying her bills or he’s paying her bills. Someone’s going to end up looking like an idiot (and a liar).
