Amy Winehouse’s Bizarre Divorce 0

About: Entertainers

Amy Winehouse & Blake Fielder - CivilFamously strung-out and co-dependent, British singer Amy Winehouse and her hanger-on husband Blake Fielder-Civil are apparently divorcing and getting nasty about it. The infamous duo married in Miami, Florida in May 2007. The exact date of their split is unknown as Fielder-Civil has been imprisoned on assault and perversion of justice charges since approximately November 2007 (with a few releases to attend drug rehab) and is scheduled to be released in 2010.

For many months following Fielder-Civil’s arrest, Winehouse made a public show of support for her husband, attending court hearings, visiting him in jail and making public statements about her love for him. Her parents were publicly hopeful that his incarceration would allow Winehouse to get off drugs.

Rumors began to fly that both Fielder-Civil and Winehouse had engaged in extra-marital relationships and continued their rampant heroin use. In November 2008, Fielder-Civil was quoted in the press as saying that he would divorce Winehouse “to save her life.” How magnanimous.

Over the winter holidays, Winehouse traveled to the Caribbean for vacation and promptly hooked up with several young men (in succession), even publicly declaring her love for at least one of them. The British media then reported that Fielder-Civil was now ready to file for divorce on the grounds of adultery.

The tabloids now claim that Fielder-Civil and his divorce attorney Henri Brandman (a British solicitor who regularly represents England’s celebs) are compiling information to prove how poorly Winehouse treated him during the marriage. He is reportedly trying to track down every man with whom Winehouse slept during their marriage, to prove that her cheating caused their marriage to fail. Because his drug use, encouragement of her drug use and imprisonment had nothing to do with it apparently. Fielder-Civil wants half of Winehouse’s estate and is purportedly looking for £5 to 10 million. British courts do not enforce prenuptial agreements.

As for Winehouse, she’s started to make moves to protect her fortune. She doesn’t believe that he deserves any money after publicly bad-mouthing her. Then there’s the matter of the amount of money she has shelled out for him over the course of the 18 month marriage. Fielder-Civil’s former salary as a video production assistant most certainly didn’t pay over £500,000 (almost $750,000) for his legal fees and rehab bills since their wedding.

Everything these two do is messy so we can look forward to many more crazy divorce stories before this one’s over. Heck, I wouldn’t put it past them to reconcile a few more times. Stay tuned.
