“Reality” TV “stars” Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are divorcing after a year of marriage. Montag filed for legal separation two months ago but amended her petition today in a Santa Monica, California court to seek a divorce from Pratt. The couple formerly starred on MTV’s The Hills and have been notorious for staged paparazzi events and publicity stunts.

The new petition indicates that the date of separation was May 25, 2010 – the Pratts one-year anniversary. She previously represented herself but has now hired Irvine divorce lawyer Jodeane Farrell to represent her. Montag is not seeking spousal support and has asked the court to terminate Pratt’s right to receive spousal support from her.

Farrell told the press that “[t]he couple has agreed they would like their divorce to be finalized in a timely manner in an out of court settlement. Both parties are amicable with each other and over the possibility of finalizing their divorce.”

Many in the media were doubtful that the Montag/Pratt split was legitimate or was another stunt for the cameras.  Montag underwent 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day earlier this year. She is pursuing an acting career and a career in the music industry.

As for an explanation of the reasons behind the split (as if anyone is surprised), Pratt said, “We love each other but I’m a fame whore and I’ll never grow out of it. [Heidi] knows that and doesn’t want that.” After hearing of the divorce filing, Pratt added , “It’s clear that reality TV-fame-loving Spencer Pratt does not fit with my ex-wife Heidi Montag’s ambitions for a motion picture actor/pop star career and being a single sex symbol for the world.”
