Christina Aguilera, Husband Split 0

Christina Aguilera and Jordan BratmanSinger Christina Aguilera has separated from her husband, music executive Jordan Bratman. The couple met in 2002 when Bratman produced one of Aguilera’s albums. They married in 2005 and have a two-year-old son, Max, who was born in February 2008.

They reportedly have not yet decided whether to divorce. According to tabloid sources, “they are now living apart, and they will see how that goes.”

After news of the split reached the gossip magazines, Aguilera issued a statement: “Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever.”

Although Bratman is reportedly worth $15 million, Aguilera clearly out-earns him. Forbes magazine estimated her wealth at $60 million in 2007. They estimated that she earned $20 million between June 2006 and June 2007 alone. Newer figures are not available but it’s probably safe to assume that Aguilera came into the marriage with substantially more assets than Bratman.

Since the Aguilera-Bratman wedding guests were required to sign a confidentiality agreement, we’re guessing that the couple probably negotiated a prenuptial agreement as well. California community property law would generally give Bratman half of all assets earned by the parties during the term of the marriage. He may have, however, waived his rights to any (or some) of those assets via prenup.

It is also possible that Bratman could seek spousal support from Aguilera.

EDITED 10/14/10 to add: Aguilera filed for divorce today. Her attorney is noted celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser. And, based upon the filings, it does appear that there was a prenuptial agreement which set aside her earnings as non-marital property.
