Jessica Simpson Reportedly Wants Prenup 0

When news stories were released earlier this month estimating the annual gross revenue of singer Jessica Simpson’s fashion accessories line at $750 million, discussion of her impending nuptials to fiance (and former NFL tight end) Eric Johnson. Johnson and Simpson have been dating since May 2010 and became engaged in November. With such a whirlwind romance, was Johnson in it for the money?

Sources have told the celebrity tabloid magazines that “[t]here will definitely be a prenup” for the couple. “Jessica has said she wants one. Jessica and Eric have talked about it,” the source indicated.

Johnson is apparently agreeable to the idea of a prenuptial agreement, which would purportedly protect Simpson’s fortune. He played in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints from 2001 through 2007. He has not been on an active roster since before the 2008 season. When he was an active player, he made between $1 million and $2 million a year. We can’t find any indication as to what Johnson has been doing for work since his 2008 release.

Both Johnson and Simpson have been married before. He was married to Keri Johnson for five years before divorcing this year (they split several month before he began dating Simpson). Simpson was married to singer/television personality Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2005 before famously dating musician John Mayer and NFL player Tony Romo.

Simpson and Lachey did not sign a prenuptial agreement before their marriage and Lachey (never as popular on the music charts as his wife) reportedly walked away from their marriage with several million dollars of marital assets purportedly earned by Simpson. It would be surprising if Simpson’s handlers, including her manager-father, would allow the Simpson-Johnson wedding to take place without a good prenuptial agreement to protect Simpson’s earnings.
