Amy Winehouse Divorce Granted 0

Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-CivilIn a fairly anti-climactic fashion, British singer Amy Winehouse and her husband of two years, Blake Fielder-Civil, were divorced this morning in a London courtroom. Fielder-Civil’s request for a divorce was granted based upon Winehouse’s admission of adultery and decision not to contest the case.

The hearing lasted just over a minute and was not attended by either party. The court records indicate that Fielder-Civil filed for the divorce in January of this year, alleging that Winehouse had committed adultery. In documents filed today, Fielder-Civil claimed that Winehouse “confessed the adultery to [him] in April 2008.”

The couple has apparently not lived in the same household since that date. Of course, Fielder-Civil has been in jail or rehab for most of the past year and a half (beginning in November, 2007). They, thankfully, have no children.

Winehouse and Fielder-Civil married in Miami in May, 2007. Their drug-addled exploits have provided British and American tabloids with ample fodder ever since. Winehouse has been living in on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia for the past six months or so, just returning to London this week.

I’m assuming that this morning’s divorce hearing is an indication that the former couple has reached a financial settlement agreement – but drama tends to follow these two around. So, you never know. Unless a dispute arises, the divorce will become final in six weeks.
